Last weekend Zephyr took a little trip to London to watch the ITU World Triathlon, find along with over 200, ambulance 000 other spectators in Hyde Park, sick to watch Javier Gomez become the World Triathlon Series gold medalist.

But the main stars of the race were the Brownlee brothers, who have taken British triathlon sport to another level of performance and interest. Especially Alistair Brownlee, who showed true determination struggling with an ankle injury on the run and finished well down the field.

Once he realised his hopes of winning a third title were over, he barked orders at his younger brother when their paths crossed, urging him to race tactically. Calling his brother a ‘complete tactical numpty’ as Jonny was pipped to the line in a sprint finish.

But why didn’t Ali Brownlee give up? The easiest thing to do would be to give up, right? But he continued with the race. Was it a good idea to risk further injury by carrying on? Or was it due to sponsorship constraints, pride or just pursuing self determined goals? Staying true to his roots he continued till the end. Dedication or strategy?

Determination is an intrinsic attribute Ali has, which comes alive inside of people and helps them reach their goals. When someone has determination, they feel a sense of achievement & happiness. Determination is linked to motivation. You need a motive to be determined to reach your goal. Many people make excuses for reasons to give up.

Zephyr took this on board when working with PureGym developing an Excuses and Motivation Campaign. Inspiration came from athletes sheer determination to achieve their goals they want. Capturing real people striving for their goal and their real stories. After all, the road to success starts with your heart. You need passion to succeed along with hard work, sheer determination and personal sacrifice, with this you can achieve whatever you want.

What’s your excuse? …
